How to prepare the surface for non-invasive mounting
This is the step most often skipped—and at the same time, the most important one. Mounting adhesive and double-sided tapes need a clean, degreased surface to achieve full adhesion. How to prepare the wall step by step:
- Wash the surface with water and a mild detergent, then dry it thoroughly.
- Wipe the mounting area with the included degreasing wipe—it removes traces of grease, dust, and limescale that are invisible to the naked eye but can significantly weaken the adhesive’s grip.
- Wait until the surface is completely dry—a few minutes is usually enough.
- Press the product firmly according to the instructions—for small hooks, the tape alone is sufficient, while for toilet paper holders, glasses organizers, and towel hangers, apply the included mounting adhesive as well, following the instructions on the package.
- Leave the product unloaded for the time specified on the adhesive packaging (usually 24–48 hours) before using it normally.
Skipping the degreasing step is the most common reason non-invasive mounting fails—not because of the adhesive itself, but because of inadequate surface preparation.
How to safely remove an adhesive-mounted product without damaging the wall
Sooner or later, you may need to move the product to another location or replace it. The good news is that, with a little patience, this can be done without scratching the tile or leaving marks.
- Do not pull it straight away from the wall—this is the most common mistake and can damage a tile, a piece of lacquered furniture, or a painted wall.
- Warm the adhesive with a hair dryer set to a medium temperature for 30–60 seconds—the heat weakens the adhesion of most mounting adhesives.
- Pull slowly and parallel to the wall surface, rather than outward—stretching the tape along the plane breaks down its structure and makes removal much easier.
- Remove any adhesive residue using isopropyl alcohol or a dedicated adhesive remover, gently rubbing with a soft cloth.
- Finally, wipe the surface again with a damp cloth to remove any remaining cleaning product.
If the product was mounted with screws, after removing it, simply fill the holes with a small amount of silicone or plaster in a matching color—this is standard practice whenever you change the arrangement, whether you are dealing with a bathroom tile or a hallway wall.
