Oak or bamboo for the bathroom? Discover the differences and choose quality

, through Michał Sklinda, 2 min reading time

Bamboo accessories entice with a low price and exotic appearance, but do they truly hold up in a damp bathroom? As makers working with the noblest types of wood, we reveal the differences between mass production and craftsmanship. Find out why oak and American walnut are choices you won’t need to replace after one season.

When looking for bathroom accessories, we face a choice: buy something cheap "for now" or invest in an item that will stand the test of time. In recent years, bamboo has become the biggest competitor to noble oak. Although at first glance both materials look "natural," there is a technological gap between them.

Bamboo – not wood, but grass

The first thing we forget is that bamboo is technically not wood – it is grass. Bamboo products are made by cutting the stalks into strips, which are then glued under immense pressure.

    • Risk in the bathroom: In a humid environment, the glue used to make cheap accessories can fail, leading to product delamination and unsightly cracks.

    • Aesthetic issue: Bamboo has a very repetitive, "striped" pattern. It lacks the depth, unique grain, and character that solid wood has.

Oak and Walnut – The nobility of solid species

When choosing our wall-mounted racks or toilet paper holders, you select a product cut from a single piece of noble material.

    1. Density and weight: Oak is much heavier and denser. You will feel it in your hand when unpacking the shipment. This mass translates into stability – our toilet paper holder with shelf does not bend or wobble.

    2. Natural resistance: Oak contains tannins – natural chemical compounds that protect the wood from rotting. This is a built-in defense system that bamboo does not have.

    3. Renovation possibility: If a bamboo product gets scratched or discolored – it is disposable. Our oak and walnut accessories can be sanded and re-oiled at any time. They are micro-scale furniture that age with class.

Why is it worth paying extra?

Paying extra for oak or American walnut is not just paying "for the brand." It is an investment in:

    • Safety: Our triple oiling makes water bead on the surface instead of soaking into the material's structure.

    • Ecology: By choosing local or certified wood, you support sustainable forestry rather than mass imports from Asia, which generate a huge carbon footprint.

    • Uniqueness: No two pieces of oak are the same. Every product in your bathroom will be one of a kind.

    Summary: The choice is yours

Bamboo is a temporary solution. Solid wood – oak and walnut – is a permanent solution. If you value items with soul that warm up the interior and become its decoration for years, the choice is simple. Your bathroom deserves more than glued grass.
